Update on Telegram bots

Jan 16, 2020

In March 2016 I have published a post “Telegram bots make your life easier” where I described how to use my simple Telegram Bot API. Because this was soon four years ago I have removed the article. However, I have seen that there are many sites pointing to this post – probably because it was one of the first ones on this topic.

Now, my implementation has been very basic and the Telegram API has evolved a lot since then. Also, there are much more sophisticated frameworks than mine, and more importantly, they are actively maintained. But to prevent you from standing in the rain, I have done a bit of research for you and would like to give you some pointers:

  • A very sophisticated framework that I would use, were I to build a new Telegram bot now, would probably be BotMan.
  • Telegram.org lists a few Telegram APIs for different languages including PHP here.
  • There are also lots of tools to build chat bots without coding nowadays, for example SnatchBot, FlowXO, or Botpress
  • If you are still looking for the documentation, I put the blog post back up again.

I hope this helps. Let me know what you think!
